VISUAL NOMAD is a response to
the wandering spirit in myself, the adventurer with itchy feet
and soul, the unsatisfied (at times) homebody. It is my passionate
response to that constant internal burning or “wandering
fever”, which has driven me to seek and explore new places
and experiences, new cultures and people. I see in me a Visual
Nomad creating for myself - and any who wish to join - a path
that seeks to explore life and spirit through art and travel.
Visual Nomad is about living life fully and on the edge, living
the artist's dreams, and then the expression of this through
line, colour, mark, shape, word, photo-image, etc.
Influences.
The vastness and harshness of the desert, and the remoteness
of the desert culture, have dragged me into a deepening love
of life, and experience of life in all its forms - especially
the spiritual and physical. Through it's dangers and it's sense
of freedom, the desert has enabled me to feel life with a heightened
sense of awareness. The desert is symbolic of the spirit for
me; it doesn't allow easy entry.
I found myself being deeply and richly Influenced by the traditional
artists of the Desert communities such as Balgo Hills in the
Great Sandy Desert of Western Australia. These artists paint
in rich vibrant colours using shapes and marks that come alive
on the canvas; capturing the spirit of the land, and the stories
that belong to their country. The creations not only explore
their culture, but they enhance the culture and keep it alive.
Life is too precious to be left to chance. Visual Nomad is
about my being inspired, and my endeavouring to inspire in
return. May this be so for you as you journey with me, for
a while!
